I first met Brittany in a Facebook Group we both belong to.  One of the post prompts for the day was to introduce your business and leave a link to either your Facebook page or website.  I make it a habit to scroll through such posts and get to know the other members of the group and find those that stand out so I can follow their Pages.  I immediately followed Brittany’s Facebook Page WeRCrafts because I thought she had such a unique business and she really spoke from her heart when she described her products. I knew she’d be perfect for an upcoming blog post highlighting small businesses and asked her to apply to be featured.  I’ll let you read more about it below in this month’s Small Business Spotlight.  ~Jacqueline Destremps

In 2012, my high school sweetheart proposed and my mom and I quickly began planning the best day of my life! Every little girl dreams of her wedding but, unfortunately, the items in the store just didn’t match up to my dreams or were completely unaffordable. It was in that moment that WeRCrafts began. My wedding day had a personal touch far beyond my wildest dreams and the joy of doing it with my mother made it even more special.

Being a mother-daughter team has built a bond that cannot be broken and we hope to share that love with our customers through our handmade crafts. Each design is created with four hands that genuinely love what we do and we strive to offer one-of-a-kind crafts to make each house a home. We first started with sales to friends and family and soon joined local craft shows. Then, in 2015, we lost my father which was incredibly heartbreaking. We took some time off from WeRCrafts but now find that his legacy lives on in us and motivates us to share our love of crafting as well as our love of making every day fun just as he taught us to do.

This is the inspiration behind our products. Why settle for store bought and basic when you can have brilliant colors and coordinating themes to match the season, the décor in your home or just represent your favorite thing? We have poured our hearts and minds into this business and have expanded our social media and marketing presence to get our brand recognized! We even offer sales in which a percent of our proceeds goes to various charities that mean a lot to us and to our customers!

Social media was a struggle to say the least, I had never used Twitter or Instagram before this business and boy, there is a learning curve! I was not used to using hashtags, or making sure you are taking the picture in the right format or else half your picture would get cut off. Several hours later, after researching and making myself a spreadsheet, I had a plan (My mother teases me I am the Lead Social Media Marketer for us ?). I joined eleven Facebook Groups and every morning I check for daily interactions! Using these interactions, I can increase my reach more organically which then get more views on my products.  I have even gained several crafter friends that I regularly network with almost every day. I cannot stress enough that organizing our social media content with a spreadsheet was our saving grace! I made myself a binder, filled it with tips and tricks from networking groups, or pinned from Pinterest! I even have a timeline for when to post and not to post on social media which has helped immensely.

One of our favorite things to do is follow up with our customers to see how they are enjoying the products and encourage people to share pictures on our Facebook Page or tag us on Intagram. Be sure to check out our product lines! Whether you’re looking for handmade hanging towels for your kitchen or bathroom, play mats for the sweet little prince in your life, headbands, skirts or wands for your princess, or handmade dresses or onesies with an option to embroider, the list is endless! We have even completed multiple custom orders for dog clothing! We love a challenge. If there is something new you want to try, message us!

WeRCrafts represents love of family, love of crafting and love of PSU! WE ARE!

Brittany works with her mother, Laura, and together they sew home goods! Their biggest sellers are hanging towels – because they are SO convenient to have around the house. They also create hot pads, clothing for children, travel accessories, and more! They love working together and sharing this experience!
